In this video, we show you the basics of how to brew Pour-Over coffee.

Making Pour-Over Coffee: Craft Your Perfect Cup

Equipment Needed:

  • Pour-over cone (e.g., Hario V60)
  • Coffee filter
  • Freshly ground coffee beans
  • Kettle
  • Scale
  • Timer
  • Mug or carafe

Ingredients:

  • Coarsely ground coffee: 1 to 2 tablespoons per cup
  • Hot water: 6 ounces (180 ml) per cup

Steps:

  1. Boil Water: Start by bringing water to a boil. Let it cool for a moment to around 200°F (93°C).
  2. Prepare the Filter: Place the coffee filter in the pour-over cone, and rinse it with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat the cone.
  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Measure out the desired amount of coarsely ground coffee. For 4 cups, you'll need 4 to 8 tablespoons.
  4. Bloom the Coffee: Pour just enough hot water over the coffee grounds to saturate them. Allow it to bloom for 30 seconds to release carbon dioxide, enhancing flavor.
  5. Start Pouring: Begin pouring water in a spiral motion, starting from the center and moving outward. Keep a slow, steady pour to ensure even saturation.
  6. Maintain Consistent Pour: Continue pouring water until you reach the desired amount for 4 cups (24 ounces or 720 ml in total). Aim for a total brew time of 2.5 to 4 minutes.
  7. Enjoy: Once the brewing process is complete, discard the coffee filter, and savor your delicious pour-over coffee!

Benefits of Pour-Over Coffee:

  • Control: Precise control over water temperature, pour rate, and coffee-to-water ratio for a customized brewing experience.
  • Flavor: Slow pour extracts flavors evenly, resulting in a smoother and more nuanced cup.
  • Freshness: Brewing each cup individually allows for the freshest possible coffee.

Metric Measurements:

  • Coarsely ground coffee: 15-30 grams per cup
  • Hot water: 180 ml per cup

Enjoy your pour-over coffee experience!
